Promotion of Clean Technology for Waste Reduction and Energy Efficiency in Rice Sector

As a part of effort to support the development of the rice milling sector in Cambodia, IFC worked in collaboration with rice miller’s associations in Battambang province to improve the competitiveness of the sector. A team of consultants from ACI helped IFC to promote awareness of clean technologies for waste reduction and energy efficiency in rice milling industry.

Description of actual services provided in the assignment

Helped IFC to promote awareness of clean technologies for waste reduction and energy efficiency in rice milling industry. (a) Assessed the status of technology use, waste management practices, and level of energy efficiency at Cambodian Rice Mills; (b) Based on the issues identified by the assessment, conducted awareness raising seminars for rice millers, to present issues/problems and share information on improvement solutions, especially the possible applications for better technologies and management systems for waste reduction and energy efficiency; (c) Developed technical guides for on how to manage energy costs, and best technologies employed in the rice milling industries which could help improve quality, efficiency and reduce wastes. (d) Undertook training courses for processors on relevant topics jointly identified with processors.
